Whilst recording out in the field for the Walk 19 project, Cheryl started collecting nature items to accompany sound maps. She sent a Sensory Nature Box to Terry in Cymmer to accompany his memory book and it was received with great joy. Then Amy, the Activities Coordinator at Towy Castle Care Home in Carmarthen, said that she had been to the library looking for Sensory Nature Boxes, but none were available. So, Cheryl approached the local FUSION, a Welsh Government initiative creating opportunities for communities through culture. Suzanne Samuels, the project officer, was very supportive and arranged a grant to cover the cost of materials. Cheryl then volunteered her time, recruited 9 further volunteers & they all followed social distancing guidelines, foraging during lockdowns to collect nature items for our Sensory Nature Boxes, posting them to Cheryl, or leaving them on her doorstep.

Cheryl then set about cleaning all the nature items, making them safe, made up all the flat pack boxes & sent them to older people living in local Care Homes. We made 2 types of Sensory Nature Box, Seaside & Woodlands, representing the narratives of the older people. It has been such a beautiful project, that we hope to use this work as a pilot & secure further funding, so that we can roll out Sensory Nature Boxes as Community Volunteer Project in its own right, so watch this space ...

Pan oedd Cheryl yn recordio allan yn y maes ar gyfer y prosiect Cerdded 19, dechreuodd gasglu eitemau natur i fynd gyda'r mapiau sain. Anfonodd Flwch Natur Synhwyraidd at Terry yn Y Cymer i fynd gyda'i lyfr a chafodd ei dderbyn â llawenydd mawr. Yna dywedodd Amy, y Cydlynydd Gweithgareddau yng Nghartref Gofal Towy Castle yng Nghaerfyrddin, ei bod wedi mynd i'r llyfrgell i chwilio am Flychau Natur Synhwyraidd, ond doedd dim ar gael. Felly cysylltodd Cheryl â’r fenter leol Llywodraeth Cymru, CYFUNO, sy'n creu cyfleoedd i gymunedau trwy ddiwylliant. Roedd Suzanne Samuels, y Swyddog Prosiect, yn gefnogol iawn a threfnodd grant i dalu am gost y deunyddiau. Yna gwirfoddolodd Cheryl ei hamser a recriwtio 9 gwirfoddolwr ychwanegol. Gan ddilyn y canllawiau cadw pellter cymdeithasol, aethant ati i chwilota yn ystod y cyfnodau clo i gasglu eitemau natur ar gyfer ein Blychau Natur Synhwyraidd, a'u postio i Cheryl, neu eu gadael ar garreg ei drws.

Bu Cheryl yn brysur yn glanhau'r holl eitemau natur, eu gwneud yn ddiogel, paratoi'r blychau a bwrw ati i’w hanfon at bobl hŷn sy'n byw mewn cartrefi gofal lleol, i fynd gyda'r mapiau sain. Mae gennym 2 fath o Flwch Natur Synhwyraidd, Glan y Môr a Choetiroedd, yn cynrychioli naratifau'r bobl hŷn. Wrth bacio'r blychau, byddai Cheryl yn paru'r ardal â stori'r llwybr cerdded. Felly, er enghraifft, roedd y cregyn o draeth Glanyfferi yn y blychau ar gyfer Cartref Gofal Towy Castle – oherwydd bod y cregyn yn benodol i'r traeth hwnnw a byddant yn helpu'r atgofion o'u hoff drip diwrnod pan nad ydynt yn gallu mynd yno.
