Helping Older People with Dementia to Create their own Memory Resources
Sound Memories Radio is very excited to have partnered with PEOPLE SPEAK UP & SWANSEA COUNCIL to pilot & deliver a new project called TO BE IN THE NOW working with older people who have been diagnosed with dementia, in their own homes, to create innovative, bespoke memory resources that will not only help them in the now, but also aid memory of Self in the future. We'll be posting regular NEWS UPDATES on this page throughout the project and at our facebook group page. We'd love for you to follow our story and your feedback means a lot to us.
Kindly funded by Swansea County Council and after much planning, we started the project with our first home visit on 11th October. We had great fun and lots of creative ideas to think about.
Between now and March, we are working with 4 people across Swansea, & their families. All of the work will be exhibited with an end of project ceremony and then kept here, at Sound Memories Radio, to library, share and help the wider ageing community.
With particular thanks to Dominic Nutt, the Ageing Well Participation Officer & his team at Swansea County Council, His vision has been the driving force behind the project & to Eleanor Shaw Director of People Speak Up, as well as our own Director, Cheryl Beer.
